Click where you want to start, it will make a point there then, click where you want the next point. You can keep goign and make a bunch of points untill you have what you want. You can also curve the line by selecting a point and dragging it? I think lol. Once you have encircled the think you want to select press the "selection from path" button in the bottom right corner of the Gimp window(the one with the brush selection and stuff like that. Then it will select what you have surrounded with points. I hope thats usefull lol.
